A Word from Our President
Greetings from sunny and warm Texas!
What an exciting time to be involved in the field of Christian Education. While some outside of the academy may only identify what we do with Christian school teaching and/or administration, the adventure of Christian Education, as you know, encompasses the entirety of discipleship in the church. When Jesus gave the disciples the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20, He specifically commanded them to “make disciples of all nations,” and He told them how to do it…by “baptizing them” and “teaching them.” His strategy has two components–evangelism and discipleship. A friend of mine compared it to an airplane with two wings. The plane won’t fly at all if one of the wings is missing. The plane will be terribly unstable and likely crash if the wings aren’t properly balanced. The same goes for the Church. The ultimate goal of our work should be to see as many people come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior (2 Peter 3:9) and for those people to make progress in becoming like Christ in their daily lives (Colossians 1:28).
You may feel the same way I do, but I can’t believe I get to be a part of God’s plan of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-20). I LOVE my job…and I get paid to do it as a bonus!
The Society of Professors in Christian Education, or SPCE (formerly known as the National Association of Professors in Christian Education – NAPCE), exists to “bring ministry professionals and professors together for equipping, encouragement and education.” Our website provides an amazing collection of helpful resources for you in this endeavor. However, there is no better way to experience what SPCE does and can do for you than to attend our annual conference each year.
Please come to Dallas this October 26-28, 2017 for our annual conference. Our theme this year on the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation is Sola Scriptura. You don’t want to miss the great keynote speakers and breakout and professional development sessions that will help you sharpen the tools in your toolbox, and maybe even give you a new tool to try out.
I can’t wait to see you and greet you in Dallas where I reside. We have some great things planned for you to experience while you are with us.

The Society of Professors of Christian Education
Welcome to SPCE Online, the virtual meeting place for evangelical Christian Educators!
Who We Are
The members of our organization (the Society of Professors in Christian Education) are people who have committed their lives to equip the saints to do the work of Christian ministry, particularly in the areas of teaching and discipleship.
Our members teach and train people in areas that include:
- Age Group Ministry (children, youth, emerging adults, adults, senior adults)
- Spiritual Formation and Discipleship
- Administration and Leadership
- Parachurch and Local Church Ministry
- Cross-Cultural Ministry
- Christian Higher Education
Our membership is comprised of those whose profession is or will be to equip leaders for ministry.
Many of our members are professors who teach in Christian education positions in Bible and Liberal Arts Colleges or Universities, Seminaries, and Divinity Schools.
Lots of others are graduate or doctoral students preparing for positions in church, denominational, parachurch, or academic institutions.
Still others are professional ministers serving in local church congregations or other Christian non-profits. But everyone in our organization is committed to the ideals of “teaching them to observe everything [Christ] commanded” and to “equip the saints to do the work of the ministry.”
What We Do
SPCE exists to bring ministry professionals and professors together for equipping, encouragement, and education.
We do this by providing this ever-improving digital destination, which serves as our virtual home throughout the year. So whether our SPCE friends and members are serving in the United States or around the world, they can meet, engage, interact, and draw strength through one another. As you will see, our website provides things like:
- Blog Posts with over a dozen major categories of content
- Audio Podcasts
- Learning Portfolios
- Photo Albums
- Downloadable Digital Library
- Social Media Accounts
- Devotional Area
- Discussion Forums
- Opportunities to Share Your Work
- And too much more to mention!
We hope you’ll check out these resources… each designed to resource you for your ministry.
For those wanting to cultivate deeper connections and to gain the many benefits of being united for a common cause, we provide several membership benefits to those who become part of our organization through an annual membership fee paid by individuals or their organizations. These fees provide the resources of this website, and other goods, services, and resources. Learn more.
We also provide an annual conference each year in mid-to-late October at different places throughout the United States where our domestic and global members gather for 3 days and 2 nights of fun, faith, fellowship, and fulfilling learning opportunities. Each annual conference has a theme, professional and academic presentations on a host of ministry-related and educational topics, plus time for fellowship and professional networking. There we also showcase products and services from our valuable ministry partners who serve as exhibitors at our conferences. In fact, many of our members are published authors who have written the textbooks and articles widely used within the many institutions and ministries represented by our organization. It’s really amazing.
