Freddy’s late mother and father were married in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Later, in his early years, Freddy was raised in rural eastern Tennessee with his mother and twin brother. They lived in challenging circumstances in a rural town of 300 until he was eight years old. At that time, Freddy’s mother remarried and they lived in Eastern Tennessee in the Appalachian Mountains. He lived there in a town of 10,000 until he graduated high school. Freddy went to college at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia at age 18, graduating at age 22, with a year of university studies taking place at the University of Tennessee. He continued to complete a Master’s degree through initial studies at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, then completing his degree at Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina, all while working in various leadership roles. After graduate school, Freddy began teaching academically part-time while working full-time at significant ministries in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Chicago. During that time, he completed his Ph.D. in Leadership at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Freddy went on to teach full-time in higher education, first in Kansas City and now in Greater Los Angeles at Biola University.
Freddy spent 20 years in full-time Christian ministry, a majority of which was spent in local churches. While in college, Freddy began serving as an interim youth minister at his home church, followed by service in a number of other positions throughout the rest of his formal training. These positions included roles in Christian education, adult ministry, and other executive roles. Meanwhile, he was teaching part time at Bryan College, John Brown University, Boyce College, and full-time at Midwestern Seminary, and currently at Talbot School of Theology of Biola University since 2009. Beginning in 2006 Freddy served on the Board of SPCE, followed by his installment as the organization’s executive in January 2011.
