Greetings from sunny and warm Texas!
What an exciting time to be involved in the field of Christian Education. While some outside of the academy may only identify what we do with Christian school teaching and/or administration, the adventure of Christian Education, as you know, encompasses the entirety of discipleship in the church.
When Jesus gave the disciples the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20, He specifically commanded them to “make disciples of all nations,” and He told them how to do it… by “baptizing them” and “teaching them.” His strategy has two components–evangelism and discipleship.
A friend of mine compared it to an airplane with two wings. The plane won’t fly at all if one of the wings is missing. The plane will be terribly unstable and likely crash if the wings aren’t properly balanced. The same goes for the Church. The ultimate goal of our work should be to see as many people come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior (2 Peter 3:9) and for those people to make progress in becoming like Christ in their daily lives (Colossians 1:28).
You may feel the same way I do, but I can’t believe I get to be a part of God’s plan of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-20). I LOVE my job…and I get paid to do it as a bonus!
The Society of Professors in Christian Education, or SPCE (formerly known as the National Association of Professors in Christian Education – NAPCE), exists to “bring ministry professionals and professors together for equipping, encouragement and education.”
Our website provides an amazing collection of helpful resources for you in this endeavor. However, there is no better way to experience what SPCE does and can do for you than to attend our annual conference each year.
Please come to Dallas this October 26-28, 2017 for our annual conference. Our theme this year on the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation is Sola Scriptura. You don’t want to miss the great keynote speakers and breakout and professional development sessions that will help you sharpen the tools in your toolbox, and maybe even give you a new tool to try out. Learn more.
I can’t wait to see you and greet you in Dallas where I reside. We have some great things planned for you to experience while you are with us.
